Carlos Alvarez MLS Draft Profile

Carlos Alvarez MLS Draft Profile

Carlos Alvarez, Senior, Forward, Connecticut

Overview:

Fellow forward Mamadou Doudou Diouf has stolen some of Carlos Alvarez’s thunder over the last couple of seasons, but Alvarez is a different type of striker than his teammate. While Diouf is a pure scorer, Alvarez is a playmaker too.

As a freshman back in 2009, Alvarez led the Big East with 11 assists and added a trio of goals for good measure. Alvarez dished out 14 assists as a sophomore and became more of a goal scoring threat as well. By his junior campaign Alvarez was still setting up the scorers, mostly Diouf, with his eight assists, but he also proved that he was a solid goal scorer in his own right by finish six shots.

Final Projection:

Alvarez is an interesting prospect. His skill set and ability to dribble and pass lends itself to a possible move to the midfield. However, he does a fine job up front too. That versatility and a solid senior year should keep Alvarez in the first round of the 2013 MLS SuperDraft.
