5/21 Baseball Bracketology Breakdown

Last Four In: Michigan, Wichita State, Ohio State, Houston

First Four Out: Georgia Tech, LSU, Illinois, Purdue

With just week until the selection show, there are many teams who need to perform well in order to reach the NCAA Tournament. Many eyes will be on Hoover, Alabama, especially on Tuesday night when Mississippi State and LSU will face off in the first round. One of them will be eliminated and that could leave them on the wrong side of the bubble. The Bulldogs though are on a roll after their surprising sweep of Florida over the weekend. LSU meanwhile lost two of three at Auburn and may need to do more in Hoover than just beat Mississippi State to make the NCAA Tournament. In total, 12 SEC teams are hoping to make the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Texas A&M, Kentucky and Missouri have strong RPIs, but have losing records in conference play. And LSU and Mississippi State, along with Auburn, all finished at 15-15. If the SEC got 11 teams into the tournament, it would be a new record for most teams from a single conference, but it is certainly possible if the chips fall the right way in Hoover. In fact, even a dozen SEC teams are not out of the realm of possibility.
