Texas and Coach Shaka Smart made a statement with their win over North Carolina on Saturday. It’s too early to say that this Texas team has turned a corner, but it is certainly a good start. For now Texas remains on the outside looking in, but their losses to Washington, Texas A&M and Michigan may not look too bad come March. However, they do have a couple big non-conference tests left against Stanford and Connecticut. The Longhorns also play Vanderbilt in a non-conference tilt in late January. With how tough the Big 12 is expected to be this year, Texas needs to win at least a couple of those games and hope a .500 record in conference play would be enough. That would only put them at 18 wins and that will likely have the Longhorns on the wrong side of the bubble.
