Week 9 FCS Football Bracketology Breakdown

George Hammond

Last Four In: Montana State, Youngstown State, Fordham, Towson

First Four Out: Central Arkansas, Liberty, Montana, Citadel

Perhaps the biggest bracket news on Saturday was overlooked by most fans. Colgate slipped past Fordham 31-29 to move to 3-0 in conference play. The automatic bid is theirs to lose. And with a trip to Lafayette, followed by home games against Lehigh and Bucknell, they probably will not lose it. That means Fordham, who is at 7-2 right now and will likely finish 9-2, moves into the at-large pool. The Rams do have a win over Army, but not much else and we’ve certainly been down this road before with Fordham. However, it could be tough to keep a 9-2 Fordham team out in favor of a mid-table 7-4 Big Sky or CAA team. Charleston Southern is also looking to claim an automatic bid after upsetting Coastal Carolina. That too takes away a bubble spot.
