5/11 Baseball Bracketology Breakdown

UCF College Baseball

Last Eight In: California, East Carolina, Kentucky, Michigan State, Mississippi, Missouri, Notre Dame, Tulane

First Eight Out: Alabama, Connecticut, Indiana, Liberty, Memphis, NC State, Nebraska, South Carolina

With two weeks left in the season before the selection show, the American Athletic Conference has a great chance to get upwards of five teams into the field. Five teams from the conference are currently in the top 60 of the RPI and Memphis sits just outside with an RPI of 61. Houston has climbed back in to the mix for a host site and are a lock for the field. UCF looked like a lock for the tournament earlier this year, but after falling to 9-12 in conference play, they are on the wrong side of the bubble. South Florida should join Houston in the field as the Bulls sport an RPI of 28 with six top 50 wins. The race for the other at-large bids from the conference should be a close one. Four teams, East Carolina, Tulane, Connecticut and Memphis are separated by one game in the conference standings. If the field were released today, East Carolina and Tulane would likely get in due to their top 50 RPI’s. Tulane and Memphis square off this weekend in a matchup that should be an elimination series for postseason chances. Whoever wins that will likely get a bid. Connecticut has a tough road with a series with Houston, while East Carolina squares off with last place Cincinnati. It’s going to be an interesting finish. Four teams from the conference seems likely, but if another team gets hot late, more are possible.
