LSU College Softball

Last Four In: Utah, Iowa State, Stanford, Tulsa

First Four Out: Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State, Maryland, Purdue

Florida and LSU took care of business this week and are going to be battling each other in a battle of undefeated teams next weekend in Gainesville. The Gators and Tigers have done the best job so far this season in all phases of the game and should put together an outstanding three game series. Michigan and Oregon are still looking to get over the hump against the Gators as execution offensively has hindered both teams in their showdowns with Florida. Also, the natives in Tucson have to be getting a little restless after what happened to Arizona in the circle out at the Judi Garman Classic down in Fullerton. The Wildcats are closing in on a decade without a national championship and they were annihilated by Florida, Auburn and Baylor, as these three teams outscored the Wildcats by a score of 41-3 in three games. The fact that teams can dominate Arizona in this fashion on a given day is a sign that this program, like UCLA, is getting a little stale. While Mike Candrea should be allowed to retire on his own terms from Arizona considering how much he has accomplished, at some point he is going to have to be held accountable for performances like this past weekend from his team as getting outscored 41-3 is nowhere close to the standard of excellence that has been set in Tucson.
