Seattle Region 2014 Softball World Series Capsule

Seattle Region 2014 Softball World Series Capsule

#12 Washington, Northwestern, BYU, and Iona

The Washington Huskies head into the Seattle Regional as the number 12 overall seed and are playing some of their best softball of the season as they finished the regular season on a 9-1 hot streak. The Huskies offensively are very difficult to beat when they are rolling like they are right now. Senior outfielder Victoria Hayward sets the tone for this powerful offense with her .424 batting average and 24 stolen bases. Junior Kylee Lahners leads the way power wise with 17 homeruns and has driven in 59. The experienced duo in the circle of seniors Bryana Walker and Kaitlin Inglesby are very battle tested. They assuredly are going to want to leave Husky Softball Stadium on a high note with a trip to the Super Regionals and the Women’s College World Series once again.

Northwestern played Washington earlier this season on February 21st and beat the Huskies 4-2.  The Wildcats are tough offensively but have struggled in the circle with a team earned run average of 3.75. Offensively, sophomore utility player Brianna Lebeau sets the pace with a combination of hitting for high average and power. Senior infielder Emily Allard brings the speed with 32 stolen bases. BYU returns to the postseason once again in 2014. The Cougars are going to be another tough offensive team making its way to Seattle as they average just under six runs per game on the season. The freshman duo of Sydney Broderick and Mackenzie St. Clair are the leaders of the BYU offense. They both are hitting over .350 on the season. Senior infielder Katie Manama is the leading slugger with 12 homerun on the season. Iona is representing the MAAC conference and could be dangerous offensively. They average over five runs per game and are led by senior outfielder Eileen McCann who is hitting .416 and freshman Kristin Turner who is hitting .350 with 11 homeruns and 52 runs batted in on the season.
