Lexington Region 2014 Softball World Series Breakdown

#14 Kentucky, James Madison, DePaul, and Ohio

Kentucky is looking to get back to the Super Regional round and beyond as the number 14 overall national seed. The Wildcats are a very sound team across the board. They are not quite as explosive as some of their SEC counterparts but can dial up runs without too much trouble when they need them. Sophomore infielder Nikki Sagermann leads the way for Kentucky with 13 homerun and 44 runs batted in. The pitching is solid led by sophomore Kelsey Nunley, who is 24-7 overall on the season. The Wildcats have gotten some nice wins against nationally seeded teams Oklahoma, Missouri and Tennessee. This regional sets up well for Kentucky, if they execute at the plate and in the circle, for them to advance.

James Madison is a potential sleeper in this bracket as they have beaten DePaul 3-1 back on February 23. The Dukes also have beaten sixth seeded Louisiana 3-0 on February 21. James Madison also has the pitching to be dangerous in this bracket, led by sophomore Jailyn Ford who has a 23-6 record and a 1.24 earned run average. The Blue Demons come in to the NCAA Tournament as the Big East Conference representative. DePaul recovered well from some tough losses in the non-conference part of the schedule and rolled through the Big East with ease. Senior ace Kristin Verdun will be critical to the Blue Demons advancing on from the Lexington Regional. Ohio is the MAC Conference representative. The Bobcats will need huge performances from senior infielder Alexandria Basquez, who leads the team with 10 homeruns and sophomore workhorse Savannah Jo Dorsey in the circle in order to make some noise in Lexington.
