The bubble is always interesting, but Thursday was a great bubble day, unless you are a fan of St. John’s, Arkansas or California. The Red Storm fell to Providence in what was virtually an NCAA Tournament play-in game. The Friars now face Seton Hall in the semifinals, which could be a bad thing. We think Providence is pretty safe either way, but losing to the Pirates would be much worse than losing to Villanova. In the SEC, Arkansas had to beat South Carolina to get a shot at Tennessee and potentially clinch a berth. But they lost to the Gamecocks and that is a bad loss at a bad time. Out west, Cal fell to Colorado and moves to the wrong side of the bubble. The Buffaloes would have had to sweat it out if they lost in the quarterfinals, but should feel pretty safe now.
