LaSondra Barrett, Senior, Forward, LSU

LSU Team Page

Overview:
Coming out of Jackson, Mississippi, Barrett came into the LSU program as the #12 overall prospect by Hoopgurlz.com in 2008-09. She did not disappoint as a freshman scoring 11.4 points per game for second on the team and she led in rebounding at 5.7 per game. Barrett was 2008-09 SEC Co-Freshman of the year with Arkansas’ Ciera Ricketts. Her sophomore season saw Barrett step up her game leading the team in rebounding at 6.6 per game.  She was prolific in getting to the foul line making 141 free throws while shooting a team leading and SEC leading 84.4 percent from the foul line.

In 2010-11, Barrett was a shining light in a very disappointing campaign for LSU. She scored 12.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. She also was a 2011 State Farm All-American, Honorable Mention Finalist

Final Projection:
Barrett’s post presence gives new coach Nikki Caldwell a tremendous piece to build around in her first year in Baton Rouge. She also has the leadership ability to carry her teammates at a strong enough level to propel the Lady Tigers back to the NCAA Tournament in 2011-12. Her big point of emphasis this season needs to be improving her field goal percentage from 37.6 percent to well over 40 to 50 percent to ensure top five draft status for the 2012 WNBA Draft.
