Johnathan Hankins, Junior, DT, Ohio State

Overview:

Johnathan Hankins is an imposing 6’4, 317 pounds. As a true freshman at Ohio State he earned a spot on the defensive line rotation and tallied 16 tackles on the season. As a sophomore he exploded, recording 32 solo tackles, 35 assists, an impressive 11 tackles for a loss, and three sacks. He earned the starting role and played in all 13 of the Buckeyes games. He lived in the opponent’s backfield and constantly demanded double teams. He gets off the ball quickly and using his tremendous size and upper body strength to gain leverage and shed blocks quickly. He is a nightmare for opponents to block.

Final Projection:

Hankins is one of the premier defensive linemen in the nation. He has ideal NFL size. Although he plays in a 4-3 scheme in college he has the size to anchor an NFL line in a 3-4 scheme as well, giving him versatility which only adds to his value. He has shown the ability to pressure the quarterback as well as play tough against the run. If he has another good season he should be a first round selection.
