Florida State was very dominant at times during the 2017 season as they won 55 games and ran the table at 24-0 in ACC play. The Seminoles took care of business in the Tallahassee Regional and ran into the one team that you really don’t want to deal as a road underdog in the Super Regionals and that was LSU. Florida State took game one against the Tigers, but just couldn’t get enough done the following two games to hold off an LSU team that was on a mission last post season. There will be a little bit of a tweaking and retooling for the 2018 Seminoles, but make no mistake, they are the ACC favorite until someone else proves otherwise.

Projection:
Led by Jessica Warren and Morgan Klaeveman, this Florida State team will light up the scoreboard offensively. Warren is an elite power hitter who hit 23 homeruns and drove in 68 runs last season. Klaeveman sets the tone with her speed for the rest of the lineup as she stole 36 bases in 41 attempts last season for the Seminoles. Carsyn Gordon, Dani Morgan, and Cali Harrod are also excellent hitters and they will help round out a lineup that will be a tough one to deal with each game. In the circle, Meghan King will be the ace and she could have a bit higher of a workload with the graduation of Jessica Burroughs. King was lights out in 2017. She had a 1.50 earned run average and did a great job of limiting the walks with 39 in 182 innings pitched. Cassidy Davis should be the number two starter and for Davis it will be about continuing to progress across the board and lower the opponents batting average from .293 down to the .220-.230 range. There is a nice mix of out of conference opponents that should test Florida State and at the same time help them with their RPI. The trip to Alabama in late February to play the Crimson Tide, along with a visit from Oregon in March, are some of the signature games on the schedule besides Florida. If the pitching stays strong despite losing Burroughs, you can expect to see the Seminoles contend for a trip to the Women’s College World Series.
