The sport of college softball made a foray into Mexico to start the season with several quality teams making the trip and boy did they not disappoint. Auburn started right away with a 3-2 win over defending national champion Oklahoma. Kendall Veatch hit two homeruns and Makayla Martin kept the ball on the ground against the explosive Sooners offensive attack and it worked like a charm. Washington made a splash as well down in Mexico as they knocked off both Auburn and Oklahoma in a two very well pitched games, which is an excellent sign for the Huskies to start the 2017 season. Florida was very impressive as well in week one as the Gators beat Michigan and South Florida by a combined score of 10-1. James Madison got off to a great start as well in 2017. Megan Good shutout the Tigers in game one, 6-0, and the Dukes battled well in the second game against Missouri on Sunday in an 8-4 loss. If the pitching stays consistent, James Madison are going to be a strong top 20 caliber team all year long. Alexis Osorio of Alabama reminded the college softball world why she is one of the top pitchers in the sport. She threw a perfect game on Friday night against Coastal Carolina in a 6-0 win for the Crimson Tide.
