Chattanooga at Sam Houston State FCS Football 2016 Playoffs Second Round Breakdown

Chattanooga at Sam Houston State, Saturday, 3:00

Behind running back Derrick Craine and quarterback Alejandro Bennifield, Chattanooga cruised past Weber State in the first round of the playoffs. The Mocs cruised to a 45-14 victory and will head to Sam Houston State in the second round. Chattanooga will have a tougher time against the Bearkats, but Craine and Bennifield will still put up plenty of points against SHSU.

The Bearkats know how to score points as well. No team in the FCS racks up more yards or points than the Bearkats. Quarterback Jeremiah Briscoe threw for 4,096 yards and 52 yards during the regular season. The competition is about to get tougher, but Briscoe is ready to hit receivers Yedidiah Louis, Nathan Stewart and Davion Davis for plenty of big plays against Chattanooga. However, the Mocs boast the nation’s best pass defense and it will be important for SHSU to get production on the ground from Remus Bulmer and Corey Avery.

Chattanooga has the ability to contain Sam Houston State’s potent offense. The Mocs are very good at getting to the quarterback and stopping the pass, but Sam Houston State will get their points. The question is whether or not Chattanooga can keep up and get big yardage from Bennifield through the air. If so, this could be a very interesting game, but so far Sam Houston State has not seen a defense that can stop them.

Projected Score: Sam Houston State 41, Chattanooga 34
