With the departures of Breanna Stewart, Morgan Tuck, and Moriah Jefferson to the WNBA it was expected that Connecticut was going to go through some growing pains early on this season. Well, this young Huskies team has other ideas as they went 3-0 this week knocking off Florida State, Baylor and LSU. Crystal Dangerfield’s 19 points led a balanced attack for Connecticut in the 72-61 win over Baylor in a battle of top five teams. South Carolina’s Kaela Davis scored 37 points to lead the Gamecocks to a 92-80 win over Ohio State in Columbus to set a very encouraging tone to this season offensively for head coach Dawn Staley. Gonzaga had a lights out performance shooting the basketball as they went into Maples Pavilion Friday night and took it to Stanford in a 68-63 victory. Jill Barta’s 26 points led the way for the Bulldogs thanks to 8-of-10 shooting from the floor which kept the Cardinal off balance defensively all night long.
