1/17 Women's Basketball Bracketology Breakdown

Last Eight In: North Carolina State, Rutgers, Missouri, West Virginia, California, Louisville, Duquesne, Florida

First Eight Out: St. Bonaventure, San Diego, Oregon, Nebraska, Vanderbilt, Villanova, Virginia, Auburn

There are a lot of traditional powers that are struggling right now. North Carolina fell off the radar long ago, but now teams like Duke and Tennessee are following right along. The Blue Devils lost at home to North Carolina State on Thursday to drop to 1-3 in ACC play. They picked up a win against Boston College over the weekend, but this team still has a lot to prove. None of their losses are too terrible, but none of their wins are that great either. In the ACC they’ll have opportunities to pick up terrible losses and big wins. In another Thursday upset, Tennessee dropped to 11-5 and 2-2 in SEC play after losing at Arkansas. Next up for the Lady Vols is a trip to South Bend. As if the SEC isn’t brutal enough, they threw that game in there. Tennessee better start winning on the road or they could fall down the SEC pecking order pretty quickly. They have four road games left against teams currently ranked in the top 15. And it’s not like those trips to Vanderbilt or LSU are going to be easy for this group either.
