3/16 Baseball Bracketology Breakdown

Florida College Basketball

Last Eight In: Mississippi, UNC-Wilmington, Notre Dame, New Mexico, Tulane, Washington, Oklahoma, Nebraska

First Eight Out: Arizona, California, Campbell, Duke, Long Beach State, NC State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech

Conference play is underway in most of the power conferences, and last weekend some of the teams in those conferences made some noise. In the ACC, both Notre Dame and Virginia Tech had impressive weekends. Notre Dame moved into the field with a series win over Clemson, while Virginia Tech moved into the mix after a series sweep over Virginia. California was the big winner out west, as they took two of three from Oregon and are now close to breaking into the field. Last but not least, there’s Indiana. Although not starting conference play until this week, the Hoosiers swept a talented Cal State Fullerton team to return to the field.

This week is also a good week to look at some smaller conferences that could emerge as two bid leagues. Both the Atlantic Sun and Big South have multiple teams that are in the mix for a berth. In the A-Sun, Kennesaw State is coming off a super regional berth with a lot of experience back, but Lipscomb and North Florida are both off to great starts and could be trouble. Liberty is still the favorite in the big South but watch out for Campbell, who is 17-2 on the season. The Camels are one of the first eight out this week and deserve the attention after that hot of a start. Coastal Carolina could also end up in the mix after crushing North Carolina 13-2 in a midweek game last week. The Chanticleers now have wins over the Tar Heels, Georgia Tech, West Virginia and NC State on the season.
