First Four Out: North Carolina, Long Beach State, North Carolina State, Nebraska

Michigan continued to assert itself as a serious national title contender after going down to Tuscaloosa and getting two wins over Alabama during the Easton Bama Bash Tournament. The Wolverines, despite a narrow 2-1 loss to Florida in the opening weekend of the season in Gainesville, have put together a great body of work as far being able to beat the nation’s best away from Ann Arbor. Oregon navigated its trip down to the Lone Star State nicely as they beat Texas A&M convincingly in College Station and grinded out a split against Baylor down in Waco. The Ducks now can set their sights on Florida next Friday in San Diego in what will be a terrific test for both teams early on in this season. The Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, like always, lived up to the hype as teams like Kentucky and Missouri had great showings, while Tennessee’s defense let them down en route to three losses. UCLA, pitching wise, has work to do in order for them to be a top eight caliber national seed in the NCAA Tournament. California continued its outstanding start as they got a dramatic win over Florida State on Saturday 7-6. UCF and Washington split two hard-fought games in a battle of teams that will be right on the edge of being in the Top 16 seeds all year long. The Knights get their shot at Florida on Wednesday in Gainesville in what would be a huge RPI booster if Central Florida could find a way to steal a win.
