Sacred Heart at Fordham FCS Football 2014 Playoffs 1st Round Game Breakdown

Sacred Heart at Fordham, Saturday, 12:00

We were here last year in the first round of the playoffs. Fordham will look for a similar result as last year’s 37-27 victory at home against Sacred Heart. The Rams absolutely dominated the Patriot League this season. Not only did they go 6-0, but few teams even gave them a contest. The high scoring Fordham squad will be able to score against Sacred Heart and the question is whether or not the Pioneers pass defense is ready to stop Mike Nebrich and company. Nebrich threw for 3,015 yards and 25 touchdowns and he has four great receivers to work with. Sacred Heart will have their hands full with Brian Wetzel, Tebucky Jones, Sam Ajala and tight end Dan Light. Those four accounted for 27 receiving touchdowns. The Pioneers’ safety J.D. Roussel is a great defensive back, but he can only cover one player at a time.

Sacred Heart is coming off of a solid defensive showing against a very good Bryant team. It was that game which determined the Northeast Conference championship. However, the offense is not exactly clicking on all cylinders right now. In the game against Bryant, running back Keshaudas Spence rushed for just ten yards on eight carries. Whether it is with Spence, fellow running back Sean Bell or quarterback RJ Noel, Coach Mark Nofri will need to establish the run game and attempt to control the clock and keep Fordham’s offense off of the field. That will be the best way to pull off an upset, yet Noel will have to throw the ball around too and get some help from top receiver Tyler Dube.

Projected Score: Fordham 34, Sacred Heart 28
